False positives in vendor velocity reviews

Vendor velocity alerts are useful until every promotion season looks like fraud. Here is how we teach desks to keep financial auditing app queues honest.

Start with the calendar, not the score

Before arguing about a risk score, list known commercial events: campaigns, fiscal closes, and supplier onboarding waves. Fraud signal assessment that ignores the calendar invents villains out of ordinary ops.

Three questions that reduce noise

  1. Did the vendor’s bank details change inside the same window as the volume spike?
  2. Is dual control documented for remittance changes, or only for invoice approval?
  3. Would a trusted peer, given only your note, know why you chose “watch” instead of “escalate”?

What we practice in the clinic

In Vendor Velocity Clinic and the flagship Mastery modules, learners annotate exports with those three answers before they touch adjectives. The financial auditing app becomes a filing cabinet for judgment—not a substitute for it.
