Writing counter-hypotheses that matter
A counter-hypothesis is not humility theater. It is a testable sentence that keeps fraud signal assessment from hardening into unexamined certainty.
Make it falsifiable
Weak version: “There may be another explanation.” Stronger version: “If the supplier’s promotional calendar matches the spike within ±3 days, escalate to watch instead of freeze.” Your financial auditing app note should invite a future reviewer to check that condition.
One sentence is enough
